The Benefits of Walking


One of the many benefits of having a dog - come rain or shine, we walk!

This is my cardio and it takes a lot for me to miss this part of my day - even in this weather I feel better for it and my workout buddy never lets me down 🐶 You may think of treadmills and cross trainers when you hear the word cardio but it doesn’t have to be that way! There are so many benefits to getting outside and walking - here are a few reasons I love it and it works so well for me…

✅Uneven terrain mobilises and strengthens joints (you don’t get this on treadmills!) ✅You push off from the ground increasing glute activation rather than the ground passing under you on a treadmill allowing for lazy walking! ✅Improves heart and lung health ❤️ ✅Weight bearing exercise improves bone health and reduces the risk of osteoporosis ✅Vitamin D (Ok, not today but in the summer!) ✅Fresh air ✅It's FREE ✅Clears my head ✅Thinking time ✅Relieves stress 🌟 ✅Increases productivity ✅Gets me away from screens!

Even if you don’t have a dog, making walking part of your daily routine is a really simple way to improve your general health and fitness. Ok, having a cute pair of eyes burning into your soul until you do get out the door helps 😆(no end sometimes!) but it is still an activity that is accessible to most and can often be slotted easily into a persons routine.

Find a buddy, human or canine and hold each other accountable. Can you walk to or from work? At lunchtime? Before work? Do you have to get public transport door to door or can you add some walking to your commute? Get a good raincoat and give it a try ☔️🤗
