Creating a Positive Relationship with Food 101

Avoid labelling foods good or bad and using foods as reward and punishment. Many of us have certain emotional attachments to food, often developed at a very young age and this labelling only further compounds the problem.

Unhealthy foods are used as a reward because they initially create pleasure. We then feel bad and guilty for eating them, often leading to further counterproductive behaviour and comfort eating ("to hell with it, I've already ruined my diet, may as well finish the whole chocolate bar!").

Nutritious foods become boring, are eaten when we're "being good" and are inadvertently seen as punishment for eating what we consider "bad food". You can see the repetitive cycle this thinking creates.

Maybe this sounds familiar? I know I have done this in the past!

What if it was all just food? Some higher quality and more nutritious than others, all eaten in moderation, without fear or guilt, for energy, nourishment and enjoyment. 🍰
